[13:32:03] <queltos> TobiasFar: heh.. sorry for my bad english.. erm.. have you done some development or something for xmpp before or is the SoC your point of entry?
[13:32:09] <xepbot> No worries...
[13:32:13] <TobiasFar> yeah
[13:32:53] <queltos> TobiasFar: ah.. nice.. so i assume your chances of getting accepted are quite good?

[13:34:27] <Kev> TobiasFar: I think my SoC was not a good example of a project that went perfectly
[13:34:54] <Kev> but the application is available, I'll pm you the url

[15:26:47] synic leaves the room
[15:28:18] <roast> hello. another soc prospective here. I'd like to run my idea by here to see if there's any interest in it.
[15:28:22] <xepbot> Hi roast
[15:29:39] <Kev> better to ask now and see if anyone answers, than wait for someone to ask you :)
[15:29:51] <roast> Kev :)
[15:32:05] <roast> this may be weird, but I was considering creating a XEP that would allow an XMPP server to authenticate openID requests. short of having kerberos and all set up, it would seem to me that piggypacking off the stronger XMPP authentication to serve the weaker openid as an intriguing idea.
[15:32:52] <roast> I would think that this ties in large part with user presence section in the soc wiki page
[15:33:08] <Kev> is this somewhat related to xep 70?
[15:33:09] <Kev> !xep 70
[15:33:10] <xepbot> XEP-0070: Verifying HTTP Requests via XMPP is Standards Track (Draft, 2005-12-14) See: http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0070.html
[15:33:24] <roast> I read it and I thought xep 70 is the reverse
[15:33:47] <roast> an xmpp server could authenticate a login request using http, but not the other way around.
[15:34:33] <roast> had I interpreted it incorrectly?
[15:35:56] <Kev> 070 is meant for authenticating http over xmpp
[15:36:41] roast looks for which servers that have implemented xep 70
[15:37:00] <Kev> there was an soc project last summer
[15:37:23] legoscia leaves the room
[15:38:07] <roast> how far did Maciej get?
[15:39:39] <Kev> as far as I know he pretty much finished
[15:40:29] <roast> would creating an openid identity provider be too small a project for soc?
[15:43:17] <Kev> depends what's involved
[15:46:33] <bct> there's this one: <http://openid.xmpp.za.net/OpenID-PHP-server-1.0/src/>
[15:47:33] <roast> bct, I had been imagining having, say, jabberd be the source instead of relying on another service.
[15:50:17] <roast> bct, but yes, I think that accomplishes the same thing. I don't think he released his source though.
[15:50:57] <bct> yeah, afaict it's just a proof of concept.
[15:51:03] <bct> just thought i'd make sure you were aware of it.
[15:51:16] <roast> bct :)
[15:51:39] <roast> is there any interest for this to be implemented as a module for a xmpp server (or two)?
[15:54:05] <roast> Kev: I'm sure it'll involve using xep 70, but I wouldn't know if writing the module to comply with openid protocol would be complex enough or last 10+ weeks.
[16:00:40] synic joins the room
[16:00:41] synic leaves the room
[16:05:36] <roast> instead of openid, I could also expand it to a PAM-like thing.
[16:44:01] keerat@gmail.com joins the room
[16:46:32] <keerat@gmail.com> Has anyone had much experience with using the available java APIs for a Jabber client? If so, any recommendations/pitfalls to watch for?
