[09:12:17] <waqas> Turn off your caps lock please.

[09:22:30] <waqas> Openfire is running on your local machine?
[09:22:35] <manish.kungwani> ya
[09:22:56] <waqas> In your code, you are connecting to localhost or 127.0.0.1?
[09:23:03] <manish.kungwani> & its listening
[09:23:04] <manish.kungwani>

[09:23:04] <manish.kungwani>
[09:23:04] <manish.kungwani>
[09:23:17] <manish.kungwani> no to sitgeeks.com
[09:23:40] <waqas> That won't work, since sitgeeks.com doesn't have a jabber server on it.
[09:24:22] <naw> is possible that sitgeeks.com resolve his public ip and thus his machine will try to connect to the router instead his own machine
[09:24:44] <manish.kungwani> shall i change my domain name to my PC's name??the default that comes while installation?
[09:25:00] <waqas> naw: sitgeeks.com is not pointing to him AFAICT
[09:25:24] <naw> anyway, I can't connect to sitgeeks.com
[09:25:34] <waqas> manish.kungwani: Which jabber java library are you using?
[09:25:48] <manish.kungwani> im doinit in C#.NET
[09:26:01] <waqas> Which .NET library then?
[09:26:09] <manish.kungwani> jabber-net
[09:27:30] <waqas> Have you configured openfire with the hostname sitgeeks.com?
[09:27:42] <manish.kungwani> jabberClient1.User = "manish";
jabberClient1.Server = "sitgeeks.com";
jabberClient1.Password = PasswordTextBox.Text;
jabberClient1.Connect();
[09:27:51] <manish.kungwani> this is d code im using ..
[09:28:12] <waqas> Add this line before connect: jabberClient1.NetworkHost = "127.0.0.1";
[09:28:28] <waqas> That tells it that the server is running locally.
[09:28:29] <manish.kungwani> i gave sitgeeks.com as d domain name while the installation!!
[09:28:37] <manish.kungwani> k vl try tat
[09:29:58] <manish.kungwani> done done done ....
[09:30:36] <waqas> Good.
[09:31:07] <manish.kungwani> thanks waqas ..
[09:31:10] <manish.kungwani> i guess ill have to revise my basics ... :O
[09:36:42] <manish.kungwani> hey i want to know more about disco, roster, Presence, PubSub, conference & caPs??
[09:37:03] <manish.kungwani> any free resources?
[09:37:49] <manish.kungwani> and how do i disable the helP PoPuP which disPlays when i Press P?
[09:38:19] <waqas> Everything about jabber/xmpp is documented on xmpp.org.
[09:38:46] <waqas> But you would want to look at jabber-net's docs, which I haven't read.
[09:39:16] <waqas> Help popup? In speeqe (the website you are using)?
[09:40:11] <manish.kungwani> actually i need to know about its basics, not usage & management ....
[09:40:29] <manish.kungwani> nd yeah the helP on the website ... :(
[09:41:34] <waqas> This has links to docs and specs: http://xmpp.org/tech/
[09:50:02] <manish.kungwani> also, i dint find anything which actually states what's a roster or disco etc???

[09:51:16] <waqas> !xmpp-im
[09:51:16] <HAL> http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-xmpp-3921bis
[09:51:26] <waqas> That describes the roster protocol.

[13:47:50] <jefferson13598> Hello, I am trying to use pidgin 2.4.3 to IM between 2 computers and the XMPP protocol in the same house. Both accounts can log into jabber.org, but add the other as a buddy. Neither receives a notification to authorize the other. Any help?

[13:56:17] <Flo> jefferson13598, 2.4.3 seems kinda old, I don't know if that can cause problems. Are you able to test a newer version of pidgin?
[13:57:38] Flo leaves the room: Disconnected: connection closed
[13:59:27] <jefferson13598> Thanks Flo for responding. Perhaps I can. The Pidgin is just from the Ubuntu repository. The buddy is listed, but has Error 404 Remote server not found message. What does this error usually indicate?
[14:02:15] <jefferson13598> Pidgin also reports the user name to be offline, but they are actually connected. Is this a Pidgin, lan, wan, or other likely cause?
[14:03:25] <jefferson13598> Pidgin seems to not be able to see the other account, but I don't know why :(
[14:04:49] <jefferson13598> Maybe is takes 24 hours for the new jabber account to become recognized by jabber servers. We just created the account less than 30 minutes ago.
[14:08:30] <jefferson13598> Does it take time for the jabber service to become available?
[14:09:16] <waqas> jefferson13598: Are you adding 'buddy' or 'buddy@jabber.org'?
[14:11:13] <waqas> If you add just 'buddy', it would assume that that's a server name, try to connect to it, and fail.
[14:16:36] <jefferson13598> waqas, that was it! thank you very much. I had only put in the account name 'buddy' without the @servicename.
[14:17:59] <jefferson13598> You and Flo just helped a noob and I must have overlooked this detail. Much apologies for my lack of noticing the details. However, the help is greatly appreciated.

[17:29:54] <coward26423> sorry to bother everyone. I just created a new jabber account, but when I log in and try to have someone message me it is telling them that i am offline. Also, when I try to message someone else, i get an error. I created this account about a hour ago. Does it take a long time for it to start working or is there something I'm doing wrong?
[17:32:42] <HedgeMage> coward26423, Some clients automatically reject messages from persons not on your roster (what Jabber calls a "friends list" or "buddy list") and you cannot see someone's presence unless you have added them to your roster and they have approved the add.
[17:33:04] <waqas> coward26423: And what error do you get?
[17:33:34] <HedgeMage> hi, waqas

[17:41:19] <waqas> Is the person you are sending the message to in your contact list, and appearing online?
[17:41:49] <coward26423> I added her to my contact list, but it is saying "waiting for authorization"
[17:41:58] <coward26423> I know she is online because I called her to make sure
[17:42:12] Lastwebpage joins the room
[17:42:19] <waqas> Did you add and try sending to 'person' or 'person@server.com'?
[17:42:44] <waqas> The first would fail.
[17:42:51] <coward26423> i sent it to the second
[17:43:23] <coward26423> tried with a mac.com account, an aol.com account, and a hotmail.com account (she has all three)
[17:43:40] <coward26423> but she does not have jabber
[17:43:43] <waqas> Oh, but do any of those support jabber? :)
[17:44:08] <waqas> Well, you can't add non-jabber accounts directly. You need a transport for that.
[17:44:29] <coward26423> oh! how do i get a transport for non-jabber accounts?
[17:44:34] <coward26423> i am very new to this
[17:45:00] ced117 leaves the room
[17:45:18] <waqas> Well, for starters, let's go with her hotmail account. Do _you_ have a hotmal/msn account?

[17:46:12] Ricardo Rodríguez leaves the room
[17:46:21] Ricardo Rodríguez joins the room
[17:46:26] <waqas> A transport basically takes your MSN/etc username and password, logs in on your behalf, and forwards everything to/from your jabber account.
[17:49:51] <coward26423> yes i have a hotmail account
[17:51:18] <waqas> Which jabber client are you using?
[17:51:59] <coward26423> i have tried to use iChat and Adium
[17:52:55] <coward26423> I can't get the Adium to log in, though
[17:53:09] <coward26423> it gives me 409 error
[17:53:29] <waqas> Transports work with any client, but for the initial setup you need an advanced client. I know iChat isn't one. Not sure about Adium. You may need to use another client for the initial transport setup.
[17:54:09] <coward26423> do you know which one is advanced that i could download?
[17:55:04] <waqas> Someone wrote a step-by-step for Psi: http://www.bigblueball.com/forums/general-other-im-news/33739-connect-google-talk-aim-msn-yahoo.html
[17:55:46] <coward26423> thanks that's very helpful
[17:56:57] <waqas> That page uses the ursine.ca server's transport, but here's a list if you want to use another: http://www.jabberes.org/servers/servers_by_gateway_msn.html
[18:07:09] Lastwebpage leaves the room
[18:07:28] <naw> adium connects directly to msn
[18:07:38] <naw> so you won't need a transport
[18:08:38] <waqas> I really should write this down somewhere, and get HAL to provide links.
[18:09:17] <waqas> I lost count of how many times I have helped people with transports :)
[18:12:03] <naw> waqas: an article in jabber.org's wiki
[18:12:14] <waqas> Possibly
[18:12:32] <coward26423> does jabber.org have transports to msn, aim, etc?
[18:12:41] <coward26423> when i search on psi, it doesn't list any of them
[18:12:52] <waqas> coward26423: No, the only transport jabber.org runs are these chatrooms.
[18:12:55] <naw> it doesn't have any
[18:13:09] <naw> but you can use the transports from other servers
[18:13:10] <waqas> Well, these are components, not transports
