[23:40:56] <cheney63643> Hello
[23:41:10] <cheney63643> I was wondering does any one do video calls with Jabber?
[23:42:13] <ThurahT> they do
[23:43:33] <cheney63643> So it works, you can video chat with it?
[23:43:40] <cheney63643> Is that all servers or just some or what?
[23:44:05] <ThurahT> yea, sure. If both clients supports the Voice and Video features.
[23:44:39] <ThurahT> I think all major xmpp server software supports it.
[23:45:09] <cheney63643> What software do you recommend?
[23:45:18] <cheney63643> Ever heard of Jitsi?
[23:45:37] <ThurahT> yeah, Jitsi is good
[23:45:48] <ThurahT> they support a lot of features.
[23:46:03] <cheney63643> Is that what you use, or recommend something better?
[23:47:02] <ThurahT> I use pidgin becasue it's multi protocol. But if you are just looking for xmpp (g-talk facebook jabber) I think Gajim is prety good also..
[23:47:25] <ThurahT> http://xmpp.org/xmpp-software/clients/
[23:49:05] <cheney63643> I've tried a few, have a family need for video, but I didn't know which to go for. Tired of ads and crap on screen. I gave Jitsi a try and so far I have it connected to Gtalk, Facebook, and a Jabber account with Enjin.com
[23:49:30] <ThurahT> nice
[23:50:16] <cheney63643> It has this annoying thing about it though, that keeps asking me what sound devices to use when my computer wakes from sleep, other than that it seems nice. Have you tried it
[23:50:28] <cheney63643> Or just tried Pidgin and stuck there?
[23:50:51] <ThurahT> I tried multi protocol clienets and stuck with Pidgin.
[23:51:32] <ThurahT> otherwise I'd use gajim or Jitsi for family
[23:51:48] <cheney63643> ok
[23:52:02] <cheney63643> What did you do, just go to jabber.org and setup an account and video with that?
[23:53:15] <ThurahT> yeah, just follow the instructions and you should be all good.
[23:53:15] <cheney63643> I assume you don't use pidgin to video with a Aim or WLM user. Is that right, that part doesn't work?
[23:53:31] <ThurahT> i haven
[23:53:49] <ThurahT> 't used V&V at all..
[23:54:39] <cheney63643> ah okay.
[23:55:05] <ThurahT> but no it doesn't work on those protoocls.. since they are closed.
[23:57:38] <cheney63643> Yeah figured, as video call options seem grayed out. Most family have expressed the annoyance of ads and garbage and bloat and etc. So I'm hoping to do a nice video call with a jabber.org account.
[23:58:45] <ThurahT> should work as long as their clients support it.
[00:03:49] <ThurahT> looking at their features list I'd say jitsi is a good choice for voice and video calls with the family.
[00:06:11] <cheney63643> Actually the only thing I don't see with Jitsi is how to change your account password for jabber.org
[00:06:28] <cheney63643> You know if you can login at the site to do that?
[00:10:37] <ThurahT> don't know really, I have never had the need to change.
[00:11:09] <MattJ> You can't do it via the site, you should be able to do it via the client if it supports it
[00:11:46] <MattJ> Jitsi vs. other XMPP clients is interesting... they're voice and video people who implemented XMPP support
[00:12:03] <ThurahT> oh yeah, there it was.. change password. Never went there before.
[00:12:04] <MattJ> Most of the other clients are more XMPP/IM people who implemented voice and video
[00:12:50] <ThurahT> hehe..
[00:13:48] <cheney63643> Wait, where did you find change password? In your client?
[00:14:01] <ThurahT> yeah, sorry.. in mine, yes.
[00:14:45] <ThurahT> I haven't used jitsi so I don't know where they do it. Account settings comes to mind.. But I don't know the client..
[00:14:51] <cheney63643> Yeah, Jitsi was sip communicator or something before. I thought it was interesting so that's why I steared in that direction I guess. There was also a mention of more security.
[00:15:58] <cheney63643> Copy that... I was looking, hell if I see the option. Did notice something in one of their forums that it's not there. :(
[00:16:33] <ThurahT> oh, ok.. well I'm sure it's in future versions then.. since it is needed.
[00:17:20] <cheney63643> yeah, might be smart! You could I guess just say you forgot your password and have jabber.org reset it?
[00:18:08] <ThurahT> that takes time I think.. that is managed manually.
[00:19:09] <ThurahT> what you could do is use a client that can change passwords to change it, then use Jitsi again.
[00:20:59] <cheney63643> :P
[00:21:04] <cheney63643> yeah, wow!
[00:21:25] <cheney63643> But yeah! lol.
[00:22:30] <ThurahT> : ) It will work.

[00:36:14] <ThurahT> he can't talk in here.
[00:36:20] <cheney63643> ?
[00:36:28] <cheney63643> text or voice?
[00:36:31] <ThurahT> the room is moderated due to flooders.
[00:37:00] <cheney63643> Oh, you can kick, it was actually me. I was trying to see if Jitsi could connect here.
[00:37:37] <cheney63643> I thought I closed it, but for some reason it still shows.
[00:37:52] <cheney63643> In this window, which I'm connected to from the web.
[00:38:16] <ThurahT> here also. I see two of you.
[00:38:26] <ThurahT> which is impossible.. : )

[00:40:26] <cheney63643> Oh halarious, I just opened it back up and typed. It's showing as typing in here. That could really be confusing for someone connecting here trying to get help!
[00:40:44] <cheney63643> I come back over here and nothing.
[00:41:15] <cheney63643> Come back over here as in connecting to http://squeeqe.com/room etc.
[00:42:35] <cheney63643> ah I get it, in the program, it has a little red thing for voice.
[00:43:07] <ThurahT> ok
[00:44:30] * darin.c.levelxcr@gmail.com joined the chat.
[00:44:30] <cheney63643> yeah sry, just testing, didn't know that would work.
[00:44:44] <ThurahT> no no, it's fine.
[00:44:54] <ThurahT> test away.. : )
[00:45:03] <cheney63643> Do ya'll notice cross client video problems? Is it client to client or what?
[00:45:12] <cheney63643> What best?
[00:45:49] <ThurahT> there are some known problems between different clients.. yes.
[00:45:54] <cheney63643> Sry, I mean, same client to same client for best results IE. A/V quality.
[00:46:48] <ThurahT> don't know really. As long as the stream works it shouldn't matter that much.
[00:49:12] <cheney63643> Do you actually connect you pidgin to facebook? If so, did you have to use a plugin or did it just work?
[00:49:31] <ThurahT> no, nowdays it works out of the box.
[00:51:23] <ThurahT> I don't have fb myself, but I know it works.
