[15:43:17] <bush27784> is this working?
[15:44:03] <MattJ> It is
[15:45:10] <bush27784> could it be that the jabber.org server is offline for a few minutes every few days?
[15:45:17] * treebilou joined the chat.
[15:45:32] <MattJ> It's been up about 5 days so far
[15:45:38] <MattJ> But there are occasional restarts, yes
[15:46:02] <bush27784> is there a status page where i can monitor that?
[15:46:12] <Kev_> It's not usually offline when it's offline - it's that the box gets very busy and some people time out - and then when they reconnect they make the box busy...

[16:55:21] <bjipoy> hi, I experienced the loss of at least one message last night that has been sent to me @jabber.ccc.de from a friend at @jabber.org. We found out because it was a two part message and - IIRC - happened some weeks before already. We didn't think much of it then. What might be the cause of that?
[16:56:16] <bjipoy> my client (finch v2.10.0) was online at time of receiving that message. my buddy is using pidgin v2.10.0
[16:57:36] <bjipoy> the consecutive messages were sent within about one minute

[18:26:48] <Kev_> http://professionalxmpp.com/ - this book probably covers what you need to know.
[18:26:58] <Kev_> I'd be inclined to read it IIWY.
[18:27:19] <Kev_> There's also http://shop.oreilly.com/product/9780596521271.do - which is general, rather than web-specific.
[18:30:10] <lurker63360> what is IIWY?
[18:31:00] <lurker63360> kev : have you ever buidel cweb base chat applicetion?

[18:37:57] <MattJ> I have Jack's book, it's good
[18:38:05] <lurker63360> can u email me
[18:38:06] <lurker63360> ?

[18:38:29] <lurker63360> ok i have this bbok
[18:38:34] <Vincent V.> lol
[18:38:35] <lurker63360> i have downlaoded this
[18:38:42] <Kev> MattJ: I was going to buy the ebook, but I decided that given the price for a DRMd ebook, it probably wasn't worth it.
[18:39:03] <lurker63360> Maat can you give me your email id?
[18:39:10] <lurker63360> kev can you also give me your email id
[18:39:10] <lurker63360> ?
[18:39:18] <MattJ> The "Kindle edition" is only £4 cheaper than the paperback, I find that surprising
[18:39:38] <Kev> I don't have a Kindle :)
[18:39:51] <MattJ> lurker63360, I have to be totally honest and say if you email me directly I likely won't be able to help you
[18:40:07] <MattJ> I have a queue of about 50 emails, some of which have been waiting 4+ weeks for a response
[18:40:14] <Kev> I just wanted a DRM-free epub or PDF, and it seemed (at least at the time) that everything was DRM. I hope the publisher will have aborted approach this by now.
[18:40:26] <lurker63360> then how can i contect you
[18:40:43] <lurker63360> mat do u every build web base chat?
[18:40:49] <MattJ> There's here, and there's the jdev room
[18:41:02] <MattJ> Sadly lots
[18:41:09] <lurker63360> can io see?
[18:41:26] <lurker63360> mat : so i need to download which serve?
[18:41:31] <lurker63360> which smpp server?
[18:41:39] <MattJ> Any - that book guides you through installing Openfire
[18:41:48] <MattJ> I use Prosody, because that's the one I developed
[18:41:52] * truman7555 joined the chat.
[18:41:59] <MattJ> and so like the best, for some reason :)
[18:42:14] <lurker63360> so should i go with Openfire?
[18:42:35] <MattJ> It's up to you - you should try multiple
[18:42:50] <MattJ> No harm in starting with Openfire if you're new and just want to get started
[18:42:57] <MattJ> Then later on you can see if it's still the best option
[18:43:10] <lurker63360> which one fecbbok and gmailusing?
[18:43:21] <MattJ> They each developed their own
[18:43:33] <lurker63360> they are not using xmpp?
[18:43:46] <MattJ> They are, but XMPP is a protocol, not a piece of software
[18:43:49] * truman7555 left the chat.
[18:43:57] <MattJ> so anyone can develop a server that speaks XMPP
[18:44:17] <lurker63360> with Openfire can i devlope FB like chat?
[18:44:28] <MattJ> Yes
[18:45:31] <lurker63360> My name is dhaval gandhi in case id will be change :
[18:45:42] <MattJ> There are also a number available already that might suit you
[18:46:01] <MattJ> Something like https://mini.jappix.com/
[18:46:09] <lurker63360> which one you prefer?
[18:46:33] <MattJ> I don't use any, when I need one I usually write it myself
[18:46:45] <lurker63360> how you can write server?
[18:46:56] <MattJ> with lots of time :)
[18:47:49] <MattJ> I've been involved in XMPP since about 2003, I didn't start Prosody until 2008, and I'm still working on it
[18:48:01] <lurker63360> if i would go with jack bbok and devlope FB liek chat it will support asp.net?
[18:48:20] <MattJ> They are mostly Javascript-only
[18:48:22] <lurker63360> what is Prosody?
[18:48:31] <MattJ> Assuming ASP.NET supports Javascript, they'll work
[18:48:35] <MattJ> It's a server...
[18:49:50] <lurker63360> also i need to use librery?
[18:50:05] <MattJ> If you don't want to start from scratch on your own, yes, I recommend it
[18:50:05] <lurker63360> liek Strophe ?
[18:50:11] <MattJ> Yes
[18:50:47] <lurker63360> Strophe is redey med script?

[18:51:05] <lurker63360> matt*
[18:51:32] <MattJ> It's a library, it provides functions to connect to an XMPP server
[18:51:47] <MattJ> I suggest you read Jack's book, then ask any questions :)
[18:51:49] <lurker63360> what is difference between this XMPP HTTP BOSH
[18:51:52] <MattJ> Most of the answers are in there
[18:51:55] <MattJ> That's definitely in there

[19:26:59] <Dhaval> Choose how you would like to connect to the Openfire database. Standard Database Connection Use an external database with the built-in connection pool. Embedded Database Use an embedded database, powered by HSQLDB. This option requires no external database configuration and is an easy way to get up and running quickly. However, is does not offer the same level of performance as an external database.
[19:27:06] <Dhaval> which one i use?
[19:27:24] <Dhaval> can i go with : "Standard Database Connection Use an external database with the built-in connection pool. "
