[12:09:07] <weibelm> Hi all, I'm developing a web based XMPP solution and I encounter a problem when user A has 2 Tabs open (with different resources and presence priority set both to 1) and user B has one (or more) tabs open (all tabs have their own connection)
[12:09:19] <weibelm> When user B sends a message, both tabs of user A receive the message
[12:09:52] <weibelm> When user A sends a message, user B receives the message but because the XMPP server doesn't resend those messages to user A, the 2nd tab of user A doesn't receive the message
[12:10:28] <weibelm> is it somehow possible that the server sends those messages to user A too?
[12:10:49] <Kev> You want a spec called 'Carbons'. I don't know what server/library support is like.
[12:11:09] <weibelm> hmm ok, thanks. I'll take a look on this
[12:11:16] <MattJ> Prosody has a plugin for it
[12:11:25] <MattJ> Rather new, but works apparently
[12:11:50] <weibelm> I'm using ejabberd atm and because I wrote some modules for it I currently have no plan to change this.. But maybe there's something for ejabberd as well
[12:17:23] <harrykar> http://open-advice.org/ ; https://lwn.net/Articles/481222/
[12:23:29] * harrykar left the chat.
[12:28:53] <weibelm> seems that someone from processone started implementing this for ejabberd but it doesn't seem that's completed yet

[15:58:24] * Zash left the chat.
[15:59:49] <MattJ> I haven't had time yet, I forwarded it to the Prosody lists but haven't had an overwhelming flood of ideas :)
[16:00:24] <Kev_> We should try to get it populated in the next couple of days.
[16:00:38] <MattJ> Ok, I'll have a stab this evening
[16:00:41] <Kev_> Unless we've got it looking a lot better than that by Friday I suspect we won't get into GSoC this year.
[16:05:34] <dwd> "We try to choose half a few excellent projects and really focus on them. " -- "half a few"?
[16:06:15] <MattJ> Half a couple
[16:06:18] <MattJ> is what Kev meant
[16:06:41] <jonas> A.K.A. 1 (one) ?
[16:06:51] <dwd> MattJ, Maybe "Submit MaM for publication" could be one of the projects?
[16:07:13] <MattJ> I can't hear you
[16:07:44] <Zash_> Or "Prod MattJ into submitting it", but it'll be one of the harder projects.
[16:07:57] <dwd> Zash_, But worth every penny.
[16:08:10] <Kev_> dwd: Was that on the application form, or the wiki page?
[16:08:18] <dwd> Kev, Wiki page.
[16:08:38] <Kev_> By the power of Grayskull - you have the power.
[16:09:07] <mathieui> Kev_, I have a couple of ideas for poezio, but would the XSF allow me to apply as a student myself?
[16:09:24] <dwd> Well, you see, the problem is, I have to hold the sword up - and, you see, here's the problem. As He-man, I can obviously hold the sword up just fine, but as Adam...
[16:09:27] <MattJ> mathieui, do you qualify?
[16:09:52] <MattJ> The XSF doesn't really allow or disallow anyone
[16:09:55] <Zash_> Carbons and MAM for all the projects!
[16:10:05] <Kev_> Zash_: Already got one up there for Swift for each :)
[16:10:26] <MattJ> Just pile on more pressure while you're at it
[16:10:41] <mathieui> MattJ, yeah, I’m a BSc student
[16:10:47] <MattJ> mathieui, then go for it :)
[16:11:08] <Tobias> and they are kind of flexible on the definition of *student* ^^
[16:13:04] <Kev_> mathieui: I think that's probably only a problem if you're the only active Poezio dev (i.e. there's no-one who could mentor you).
[16:13:31] <mathieui> I am not
[16:13:46] <mathieui> (though there won’t be any spare mentor if louiz’ falls ill)
[16:14:05] <louiz’> I could be the mentor
[16:17:54] <Kev_> Shove some ideas up :)
[16:19:16] <dwd> Kev, That wasn't a very ncie thing to say.
[16:19:23] <dwd> Kev, Oh, wait, I see.
[16:19:44] <MattJ> You want me to shove MAM up as well?
[16:20:17] <dwd> MattJ, I want you to submit the damn thing.
[16:22:30] <Zash_> :D

[17:43:04] <Kev_> Can anyone think of anything that wouldn't be a valid resource?
[17:43:32] <Kev_> Trying to test my nick validator for the Enter Room dialog, and I've realised I can't think of an illegal resource easily.
[17:43:50] <Zash> There is none.
[17:43:58] <Zash> Broken UTF-8 perhaps
[17:45:28] * BEAST joined the chat.
[17:45:47] <psa> control characters?
[17:45:48] <BEAST> /me salutes you
[17:45:57] * BEAST in now known as Baccus.
[17:46:02] <psa> hi Baccus
[17:46:04] <Kev_> psa: I'm not sure how to type those :)
[17:46:12] <Baccus> hey psa
[17:46:17] <psa> Kev_: right, that would be a problem, eh?
[17:47:08] <Zash> Kev_: Can't you insert characters from numbers?
[17:47:14] <Kev_> I'm getting the feeling I'm validating something that really doesn't need validating here :)
[17:48:13] <psa> Kev_: dwd suggested that we might just use byte-for-byte comparison for resourceparts, which makes quite a bit of sense, I think (although we might want to do something Smart™ about room nicknames)
[17:48:29] <Kev_> We'd presumably still disallow disallowed characters, though.
[17:50:03] <dwd> Kev, You could enter an invalid LTR/RTL mix.
[17:50:16] <dwd> Kev, Erm.
[17:50:23] <dwd> Kev, Actually, not much else.
[17:50:40] * Baccus left the chat.
[17:52:49] <dwd> psa, And yes, we do need/want to do something smart for nicknames. But I was chatting with Fippo on this, and he pointed out that there's some further scope for confusion because we mix, in MUC, nicknames with addressing.
[17:54:21] <psa> there's always further scope for confusion :)
[17:56:25] <psa> hmph
[17:56:25] <psa> lag city
[17:58:46] * Treebilou left the chat.

[18:00:56] <Zash> slowlagindeed
[18:01:33] <Kev_> Just had a polite confirmation from CarolS that without a decent ideas page we won't be getting into GSoC...
[18:03:49] * gigam left the chat.
[18:04:31] <Kev_> Oh. I thought the DSA was using a bit more memory than it did in the past.
[18:04:46] <Kev_> Seems my old figures of about 400k registered users is a bit out of date...
[18:05:07] <Kev_> grep -c inetOrgPerson eddy-Mar-05-12-users.ldif 950170
[18:05:23] * sezuan left the chat.
[18:05:41] <Zash> .
[18:06:05] <psa> um
[18:06:08] <psa> that's a lot of users
[18:06:24] <Kev_> Yeah. I wonder how many other people are running million-user XMPP servers on a single node.

[18:57:09] <Kev_> louiz’: is http://poezio.eu/ supposed to exist?
[18:57:19] <Kev_> Or mathieui or anyone.
[18:57:42] <mathieui> it is supposed to
[18:57:50] <mathieui> but louiz’ migrated his server last week
[18:57:58] <mathieui> I bet he forgot about this one
[18:58:10] <Kev_> I was trying to find a Git repo and failing horribly.
[18:58:18] <Kev_> I found multiple web interfaces onto Git, but nothing I could clone.
[18:59:02] <mathieui> http://git.louiz.org/poezio should do
[19:00:06] <Kev_> Oops! This link appears to be broken. Suggestions: Go to louiz.org Search on Google:
[19:00:24] <Kev_> Ah, does clone though.
[19:00:25] <Kev_> Ta.
[19:01:48] <mathieui> (and since the website is down, the documentation is included in the repo)
[19:01:54] * Florob joined the chat.
[19:03:27] <Kev_> Ta.
[19:04:44] * naw joined the chat.
[19:07:13] <louiz’> oh
[19:07:17] <louiz’> I’ll fix that asap
[19:10:23] <Kev_> When I `make install`, where's it going to go?
[19:10:30] <Kev_> Somewher inside the site-packages for the Python it's using?
[19:10:33] <Kev_> +e
[19:11:10] <mathieui> /usr/local/share afaik
[19:11:22] <louiz’> yes
[19:11:44] <Kev_> Yes to which? Inside site-packages, or hardcoded?
[19:12:24] <louiz’> yes to /usr/local/share hardcoded
[19:12:44] <mathieui> Kev_, hardcoded, but you can always change the prefix, (/usr/local/), or other variables
[19:13:05] <louiz’> Kev_, the DNS for poezio.eu was not modified to reflect its new home, it is now fixed. It’s on 88.190.23.192 if you want to force that DNS while it’s propagating
[19:13:39] * guus joined the chat.
[19:13:40] <Kev_> BTW, I think you're both developers, not developpers :)
[19:14:00] <louiz’> oh, yeah, thanks :p
[19:14:24] <louiz’> It’s développeur in french :p

[19:22:16] * Hermitifier joined the chat.
[19:24:37] <Kev__> Hrmm.
[19:25:14] <Kev__> Well, it's a bit cryptic, but it seems to work.
[19:26:09] <Kev__> I don't know what's special about Link Mauve that means the nick needs an "A" beside it, though.
[19:26:20] <Link Mauve> It’s because I’m looking at the room.
[19:26:33] <Link Mauve> And when I’m writing a message, I’ve got a X.
[19:26:37] <Kev__> Or, for that matter, why Peter has a ~ instead of an &.
[19:26:40] <Zash> It does chatstates in MUC...
[19:26:47] <Link Mauve> It’s because he’s an owner.
[19:27:06] <Kev__> But so'm I, and I don't have a ~, I've got a &
[19:27:07] <Zash> Where's that logic?
[19:27:24] <Kev__> (Not with this account)
[19:27:43] <Zash> In irssi, it's & owner and @ operator
[19:27:51] <Zash> and + voice
[19:27:56] <Link Mauve> /info Kev says me you are just an admin.
[19:28:54] <Link Mauve> Zash, in poezio, affiliations are the character (~ owner, & admin, + member, - none), and role the color (red moderator, blue participant, and black visitor).
[19:29:34] <Link Mauve> It’s relatively new though, and I think the characters were just chosen because they look nice.
[19:29:38] <Kev__> Oh, you're *right*. At some point some friendly person has stopped me being an owner.
[19:29:47] <Kev__> Something's hugely screwey with the encoding, though.
[19:29:55] <Kev__> "It?~@~Ys relatively new though"
[19:30:26] * Kevmin joined the chat.
[19:30:27] <Link Mauve> Oh, you have a python3 linked against libncurses, not libncursesw, which is a too common issue amongst distributions… :(
[19:30:43] <Link Mauve> But I thought it had been fixed in Debian.
[19:31:00] <dwd> Kev, You seemed to be using the wrong jid to be an owner.
[19:31:09] * Kevmin left the chat.
[19:31:26] <Kev__> I fixed it with SUPARUSER powers.
[19:31:57] <dwd> By the power!
[19:32:13] <Link Mauve> Anyway if you want to learn more about poezio, the doc is well made and could explain things not evident.
[19:32:32] <Link Mauve> It’s not made to be intuitive, it’s made to be efficient and easy to use.
[19:32:34] <Florob> /me mutters something about grayskull
[19:32:35] <dwd> louiz’, Are you still tinkering with Gajim and PubSub stuff?
[19:33:06] <Link Mauve> dwd, the new PubSub browser for Gajim?
[19:33:16] <Link Mauve> I think it was abandonned when he started poezio.
[19:33:46] * Kev__ left the chat.
[19:48:17] <louiz’> dwd, not really, sorry…
[19:49:43] <louiz’> and yes, the "It?~@~Ys relatively new though" bug is from your distro. Debian, ubuntu and a fow others had that issue before we raised attention to it
[19:49:59] <louiz’> and it should be fixed in at least the latest version of these two
