[07:26:42] <Torsten Bronger> Has anything changed in the server configuration this week? Meboo on Android cannot connect anymore and I suspect it's a security layer issue.
[07:27:20] * creation joined the chat.
[07:27:23] <Kev> Which server? I know the meebo.org server was misconfigured recently.
[07:28:06] <Torsten Bronger> You mean the app doesn't connect directly to jabber.org but via a meebo server?
[07:30:01] <Kev> I know nothing about how it works.
[07:30:14] <Torsten Bronger> I gave Meebo my jabber.org account which worked until this week.
[07:31:15] <Kev> I know that yesterday their server was misconfigured and was stopping connections to jabber.org working.
[07:31:21] <Kev> I don't know much more about it than that.
[07:31:42] <Torsten Bronger> Okay, but on jabber.org nothing has changed since say monday?
[07:32:05] * GavYur joined the chat.
[07:32:20] <Kev> That is correct.
[07:32:50] <Torsten Bronger> Okay, thanks. Then I poke the Meebo people.
[07:33:22] <Kev> I do not know what the problem is, mind. I'm not claiming it must be their fault.
[07:34:28] <Torsten Bronger> Granted, but reporting it to Meebo is the best next step I think.

[18:05:16] <naw> jabberes.org?
[18:05:19] <adams20235> yes
[18:05:30] <naw> que pasa con jabberes?
[18:05:38] <adams20235> no se como usarlo
[18:06:01] <Naveen Michaud-Agrawal> does anybody have experience inviting a user on google talk to an externally hosted MUC?
[18:06:12] <naw> http://www.jabberes.org/como-crear-cuenta
[18:07:05] <naw> adams20235: puedes entrar en una sala de jabberes en español a traves de http://speeqe.com/room/jabberes@conf.jabberes.org/ o http://www.jabberes.org/salas/entrar/?room=jabberes
[18:07:19] <adams20235> thnx
[18:07:29] <Naveen Michaud-Agrawal> the user sees the invitation pop up in google chat, but no further communication between the user and the muc
[18:07:53] <Naveen Michaud-Agrawal> do i need to configure my conference.domain DNS records?
[18:08:04] <Naveen Michaud-Agrawal> (i have the proper ones set up for the root domain)
[18:08:18] <Kev> The MUC domain is essentially a server all on its own.
[18:08:30] <Kev> So it needs the same setup that the user server does.
[18:08:54] <Kev> (DNS, certs etc.)

[18:17:28] <Naveen Michaud-Agrawal> ok, my connection died. DId anyone answer my question about google talk and externally hosted MUC?
[18:17:48] * Kamil left the chat.
[18:19:30] <Kev> The MUC domain is essentially a server all on its own. Kev @ 18:08 So it needs the same setup that the user server does. 18:08 (DNS, certs etc.) 18:08
[18:19:46] <Kev> Although be forewarned that Google Talk doesn't play all that nicely with MUCs.
[18:20:49] <Naveen Michaud-Agrawal> ok, thanks. so is it possible to host the MUCs on the same domain as my main jabber server?
[18:21:02] <Naveen Michaud-Agrawal> then i can reuse the certs and SRV records
[18:21:18] <Kev> Theoretically, the protocol allows it, but in practice no - I don't know of any service or software that works that way.
[18:22:01] <Tanguy> It would be confusing to mix people and MUC on the same domain name.
[18:22:05] <Naveen Michaud-Agrawal> ok. thanks. It's weird because 3rd party clients connected to their google talk accounts can create/join MUCs on my conference server without the additional DNS records
[18:22:21] <Naveen Michaud-Agrawal> and i presume those are going through google's jabber server
[18:22:29] <Tanguy> Yes.
[18:22:31] <Naveen Michaud-Agrawal> it's just the web interface
[18:22:55] <Naveen Michaud-Agrawal> that seems to think my conference server isn't available
[18:23:22] <Tanguy> Well, if there is no DNS record pointing to it, it should be unavailable indeed.
[18:23:41] <Naveen Michaud-Agrawal> well, there is an A level record pointing to the same ip address as the parent domain
[18:23:45] * louiz’ left the chat.
[18:23:52] * louiz’ joined the chat.
[18:23:58] <Tanguy> This is why it is available.
[18:24:12] <Tanguy> A/AAAA records are used as fallback when no SRV record is available.
[18:24:29] <Tanguy> As for email when no MX record is available.
[18:25:27] * louiz’ left the chat.
[18:25:30] * louiz’ joined the chat.
[18:27:46] <Naveen Michaud-Agrawal> ah, so i can create SRV records for my conference.[domain] and remove the A record and it should still work
[18:29:37] * wilson2586 joined the chat.
[18:31:56] <Naveen Michaud-Agrawal> thanks for your help
[18:31:59] <wilson2586> is there a xep for ACL?
[18:32:31] <wilson2586> In Ejabberd you can define ACL in the config file or in the admin
[18:36:19] <MattJ> wilson2586, what would the XEP describe?
[18:39:05] <wilson2586> MattJ: roles and rules
[18:39:21] <wilson2586> MattJ: for example, can create users, can delete users...
[18:39:39] <MattJ> There's no XEP for that, it's implementation-specific
[18:39:45] * kf left the chat.
[18:39:50] <wilson2586> that's a shame
[18:40:27] <wilson2586> don't you see the value in such a XEP?
[18:41:24] <MattJ> I've never had the need for it, no
[18:42:04] <wilson2586> how do you define who can manage the server?
[18:42:22] * louiz’ left the chat.
[18:42:23] * mpranj left the chat.
[18:42:26] * louiz’ joined the chat.
[18:42:36] <MattJ> In the server's config file
[18:43:35] <wilson2586> and if you have several vhosts
[18:43:41] <louiz’> In the config file
[18:43:47] <wilson2586> you want one account to be able to manage all of them
[18:44:24] <MattJ> Still the config file :)
[18:44:37] <Kev> XEPs are required where systems need to interoperate.
[18:45:02] <wilson2586> who can create muc rooms
[18:45:04] <Kev> Defining ACLs on the server hasn't been seen as an interoperability issue so far.
[18:45:36] <louiz’> wilson2586, yeah, and that's all implementation-specific. So you configure that however your server lets you do that. Prosody does that (if available) in the config file
[18:45:47] <Kev> There is a precedent for a server administration XEP, so it's not inconceivable one could exist if implementors wanted it.
[18:46:19] <louiz’> Wouldn't server-administration just be an ad-hoc command?
[18:46:32] <Kev> It is.
[18:46:36] <Kev> XEP-0133
[18:46:36] <louiz’> ok
[18:46:39] <Kev> If memory serves.
[18:47:42] <wilson2586> "Determining when a command can be executed based on permissions or rights is considered outside the scope of this document"
[18:48:28] <MattJ> Indeed
[18:48:40] <MattJ> It's typically just something that is configured when setting up the server
[18:50:23] <wilson2586> when there is a xep it's easier to switch between servers
[18:50:30] <wilson2586> and it's easier to create a new server
[18:52:00] <MattJ> So you're talking about a XEP for server-independent configuration?
[18:52:18] <wilson2586> not the actual syntax
[18:52:25] <wilson2586> but the terminology
[18:52:37] <wilson2586> and the mechanism behind it
[18:53:33] <MattJ> I guess no-one has ever needed it enough to justify the extra implementation and specification writing work :)
[18:54:01] <wilson2586> I think that everybody need it
[18:54:31] <wilson2586> especially if you want people to switch to prosody and not stay with ejabberd :)
[18:54:52] <MattJ> Nobody has asked for it before
[18:55:04] <wilson2586> they were shy
[18:55:12] <MattJ> Ok, glad you know them so well :)
[18:55:27] <MattJ> As a matter of fact I think relatively few people use ejabberd's ACLs for more than basic stuff
[18:55:42] <wilson2586> probably
[18:55:53] <wilson2586> does prosody have only basic acl?
[18:56:12] <MattJ> It has the concept of service admins and host admins
[18:56:24] <MattJ> I'm happy to say everyone was too shy to ask for anything more
[18:56:45] * Naveen Michaud-Agrawal left the chat.
[18:56:51] <wilson2586> :)
[18:57:05] <MattJ> because I wouldn't be too keen on implementing a full ACL system for admins, they get complicated quickly
[18:57:18] <MattJ> and Prosody isn't designed to be complicated
[18:57:27] <wilson2586> maybe you are right
[18:57:39] <wilson2586> and full access for server admin and host admin is the way to go
[18:57:40] <wilson2586> thanks
[18:57:56] <wilson2586> maybe ejabberd just confused me
[18:58:08] <MattJ> :)
[18:58:34] <wilson2586> but if I want to let a user permission to destroy the host but not to be able to create a muc room
[18:58:38] <wilson2586> makes sense :)
[18:59:29] <MattJ> Let me know when you find a real example of somewhere you need to allow someone to destroy a host and not create a room :)
[19:00:01] <wilson2586> it might take some time...
[19:00:10] <MattJ> I'll be here :)

[20:44:56] <naw> in addition to the xepbundle.tar.bz2 (which contains the xeps in pdf format), you may be interested on provide another file with the xeps in html format. That would be about 1.5Mb archive versus a 30Mb archive
[20:48:57] <Link Mauve> I second this request.
[20:49:11] <Link Mauve> And why not in xz. ^^
[20:49:55] <naw> no, it has to be in the most compatible format possible
[20:49:55] <stpeter> I didn't even know we had a bundle :)
[20:50:03] <stpeter> must be Tobias at work
[20:50:15] <naw> http://xmpp.org/extensions/xepbundle.tar.bz2
[20:50:16] <Link Mauve> naw, so gzip ?
[20:50:23] <naw> maybe zip
[20:50:56] <naw> if someone want to recompress, he can
[20:51:12] <Tobias> stpeter: some people, might as well be a single person, requested that feature a while ago
[20:51:15] <naw> the problem is that pdf files can not be recompressed
[20:52:07] <naw> I say it because I did a wget -r just to get the html files in order to send them by email
[20:52:26] <naw> (to a cuban that has no access to webpages)
[20:52:32] <Tobias> naw: why recompressed? the generated ones aren't compressed :)
[20:52:35] <stpeter> ah yes
[20:52:39] <Tobias> so i'd only be single compression
[20:52:44] <stpeter> we need HTTP over XMPP
[20:53:56] <naw> Tobias: yes, I mean, the original file should be in the most compatible format (e.g. a zip of 3mb) and if someone wants to reduce the size, he can uncompress and recompress (e.g. to a .7z file of 1.5mb)
[20:54:30] <naw> that can be done with html files, but with pdf files you don't win anything compressing
[20:54:32] <Link Mauve> naw, or, if space isn’t a problem, provide multiple formats.
[20:54:55] <Tobias> naw: why don't you win anything by compressing PDFs?
[20:55:45] <Tobias> all the PDFs together compressed are smaller than downloading each alone
[20:55:55] <naw> Tobias: oh, my bad 58M xepbundle 30M xepbundle.tar.bz2
[20:56:32] <Tobias> and it's more a convenience feature, so you don't have to click on all and download them each independently
[20:56:39] <Link Mauve> Tobias, is gzip compression enabled for PDF files on xmpp.org?
[20:56:56] * evilotto joined the chat.
[20:56:59] <Tobias> Link Mauve: it isn't, XeLaTeX on that machine doesn't support pdf compression yet
[20:57:32] <naw> Tobias: yes, but my point is that a html bundle will be a lot smaller
[20:57:46] <Tobias> of course the HTML bundle will be smaller
[20:57:59] <Tobias> but nobody requested that one yet :)
[20:58:33] <Link Mauve> Tobias, I do. :)
[20:58:38] <naw> well, then I suggest that it can be interesting
[20:58:40] <naw> :)
[20:59:25] <Tobias> Link Mauve: k
[21:00:04] <Tobias> damn..why do all IGS clients have to be so buggy
[21:00:42] <Tobias> naw: the PDFs include fonts, colors, layout, etc., of course they are larger, but it would be nice to have PDF's already compressed
[21:01:31] <Tobias> i guess the HTML bundle would be a bit more work..brining all the deps of the xep html in the folder, CSS stuff, and adjusting references in the HTML files
[21:02:02] <naw> yes, I guess that

[21:35:00] <Naveen Michaud-Agrawal> hello, i'm having problems with google chat users connecting to muc's on my ejabberd server (while it works if the user is logged into their google talk account through a third party app). Ive captured the debug logs for both a successful and failed invitation attempt, and narrowed the cause down to the following:
[21:35:58] <Naveen Michaud-Agrawal> when inviting a user who is logged in through the google chat web interface, the gmail server requests a "http://jabber.org/protocol/disco#info service discovery on the particular MUC (ie testing@conference.domain)
[21:36:32] <Naveen Michaud-Agrawal> and ejabberd responds with an error code of 501 "feature not implemented"
[21:37:16] <Naveen Michaud-Agrawal> is the google talk part doing something weird? or do i have to configure my ejabberd in a particular way? (I have mod_disco and mod_caps set to [] in the modules list
