[11:38:51] * waqas joined the chat.
[11:44:48] <waqas> jugg: Prosody might. It works for internal components, but I haven't tested with external ones.
[11:46:20] <jugg> ok, I'm playing with ejabberd at the moment
[11:46:36] <jugg> /me hopes MattJ is looking the other way.
[11:47:12] <MattJ> I'm not :)
[11:47:17] <jugg> doh! :)
[11:47:29] <MattJ> I'm not even worried, you'll come running back
[11:48:05] * benlangfeld joined the chat.
[11:48:49] <jugg> I'm having to integrate into an erlang environment using exmpp - ejabberd seemed to make sense for testing against - reduce compatibility issues up front.
[11:50:03] <MattJ> /me gets out a highlighter pen and highlights "seemed" :)
[11:50:14] <jugg> :)
[11:53:02] <Zash> highlighter pens - the sgml of reality
[11:53:24] <MattJ> /me gets out his blinking highligher pen
[11:53:35] <Zash> /me gets out tipex
[11:54:04] <MattJ> /me tries his marquee pen so Zash can't catch the text
[11:54:51] <Zash> o_O
[11:55:13] <jugg> btw, I'm seeing a steady increase of memory usage in my verse based bot... however, it integrates some other technologies as well, so I haven't deteremiend the source yet. It's gone from 20MB to +60MB in ~1 month. All said, I'm happy with the 1 month uptime. :)
[11:55:19] * john left the chat.
[11:57:05] * john joined the chat.
[11:59:22] <MattJ> jugg, should probably port the Prosody memory dumper to it
[12:02:51] * will.thompson joined the chat.
[12:02:54] * will.thompson left the chat.
[12:03:48] <benlangfeld> Is Prosody generally considered superior to ejabberd these days?
[12:05:46] <MattJ> Depends whom you ask, but since you're asking me, yes :)
[12:06:31] * Tobias left the chat.
[12:06:36] <MattJ> I don't touch ejabberd anywhere if I can help it, but I'm developing Prosody almost full-time, so that's to be expected
[12:06:52] * Tobias joined the chat.
[12:10:55] <Zash> generally superior!
[12:12:34] <Zash> and easy to poke around in (if you don't know erlang)
[12:13:53] <Zash> /me used ejabberd before because it had packages in ubuntu and wasn't java
[12:14:58] * Tobias left the chat.
[12:15:20] * Tobias joined the chat.
[12:15:34] <Zash> the clustering stuff sounds cool, but overkill
[12:18:03] <MattJ> People have switched to Prosody partly /because/ of ejabberd's clustering :P
[12:18:17] * Tobias left the chat.
[12:18:41] * Tobias joined the chat.
[12:22:42] <jugg> MattJ: if you don't mind, in a word or two, what is it that turns you off from ejabbered? erlang, methodology, mentality, compatibility, Prosody ... ?
[12:22:56] <MattJ> Yes :)
[12:22:59] <jugg> :P
[12:24:27] <MattJ> You also didn't list the various experience of helping run it on jabber.org
[12:24:46] <MattJ> and trying to use it for development, and it just crashing
[12:25:04] <MattJ> (which is what started me developing Prosody in the first place)
[12:34:32] * waqas left the chat.

[21:13:21] <flo> is there any reason for a xmpp client to support md2?
[21:13:23] * john left the chat.
[21:13:54] <Zash> md5 - 3?
[21:15:19] <flo> i.e. are there servers out there that could be configured to support md2 authentication only?
[21:16:16] <flo> Zash: more like md(5-3)
[21:16:43] * mlundblad_netbook joined the chat.
[21:17:14] <Zash> I have never even heard about md2
[21:17:54] * mlundblad_netbook left the chat.
[21:18:51] <Florob> well, PLAIN is a MUST, so... A compliant server can not require a client to do this AFAIK

[22:22:29] <Zash> "The patent discloses methods of using email address identifiers to connect separate computers over a network, as well as detecting whether an endpoint is connected to the network."
[22:22:38] <Zash> Good thing XMPP doesn't use email addresses
[22:22:39] <Zash> :D
[22:30:54] <Tobias> hehe :)
[22:30:59] <Tobias> what patent is that?
[22:34:53] <Zash> http://www.gttgrp.com/2010/07/20/gtt-announces-a-patent-acquisition-opportunity-related-to-instant-messaging-technology/
[22:35:28] <Zash> someone mentioned it on twitter (i sometimes check if someone mentions any cool xmpp stuff there)

[00:39:16] <MattJ> hawke, I've heard people asking that question for at least a week now
[00:39:28] <MattJ> I've had no problems, but it seems some people are
[00:40:08] <hawke> It'd been working fine for a long long time, just seems to have started acting up today
[00:44:47] <hawke> It's especially weird because it'll show a few contacts online for a bit
[00:44:58] <hawke> and then suddenly offline, 404 remote server not found
[00:45:49] <hawke> but only for some contacts
[00:45:55] <hawke> And nothing in the log.
[00:48:21] <MattJ> What server are you using?
[00:50:51] <hawke> ejabberd
[00:51:16] <hawke> 2.0.5, and I just upgraded to 2.1.3, showing the same probs
[00:52:25] <hawke> sending messages from gmail works fine
[00:52:34] <hawke> but sending them the other way gives a 404
[00:52:35] <MattJ> Strange
[00:52:42] <hawke> yes
[00:52:58] <hawke> (though I do show as offline from gmail
[00:53:15] <hawke> would be nice if ejabberd's error logging were better
[00:54:07] <MattJ> It has a number of loglevels
[00:54:32] <Florob> none of them readable
[00:54:35] <MattJ> Unfortunately half of them give hardly any info, and the other half tell you everything you never wanted to know about XMPP :)
[00:54:47] <MattJ> and erlang
[00:55:10] <MattJ> but I'd have thought even ejabberd would tell you about stream failures
[00:55:15] <hawke> =INFO REPORT==== 2010-07-26 19:53:18 === I(<0.777.0>:ejabberd_s2s_out:1148) : Trying to open s2s connection: hawkesnest.net -> gmail.com =INFO REPORT==== 2010-07-26 19:53:38 === I(<0.777.0>:ejabberd_s2s_out:415) : wait for validation: hawkesnest.net -> gmail.com (closed)
[00:55:21] <hawke> That's about all
[00:55:56] <hawke> telnet to all of the SRV records for _xmpp-server._tcp.gmail.com, port 5269, works fine
[00:55:59] <MattJ> Heh, oh well
[00:56:32] <hawke> suppose I could bump the loglevel up some more
[00:56:51] <hawke> brb
