[16:42:12] <deryni> What version of the Yahoo protocol is the transport using?
[16:43:15] <johnny> maalox, the py*t transports haven't been updated in quite some time last i recall
[16:43:26] <johnny> it's really not recommended that you use them
[16:43:38] <johnny> unless they have somehow aquired a real maintainer since
[16:45:41] <maalox> using CVS version 1.73
[16:46:15] <deryni> That's not an answer to my question.
[16:46:17] <maalox> The problem is I can't register with the transport like I have been able to do in the past. My users are also not able to register
[16:46:49] <deryni> You can't use the transport on the XMPP side or the transport can't connect to Yahoo on the Yahoo side?
[16:51:36] <maalox> The transport cannot authenticate with yahoo. It tells me that me I an not authorized even though I have verified that my credentials are correct by logging into yahoo with the yahoo client. I was able to register using another Yahoo ID and password however. But now I can't do that either.
[16:52:07] <maalox> The transport intself is running.
[16:52:18] <johnny> sure, but it probably has an incompatible protocol version
[16:52:18] <deryni> You were able to use the transport for another user? Or you were able to use something else with another user?
[16:52:21] <johnny> that's why deryni ask
[16:52:33] <johnny> he said he "registered" not that it actually worked
[16:52:45] <johnny> maalox, did it actually work?
[16:53:02] <johnny> maalox, really, the answer is probaby to switch to a maintained set of transports tho
[16:53:14] <johnny> ones that keep up with fixes to the various protocols
[16:53:24] <deryni> Indeed.
[16:53:37] <johnny> that's why we <3 the pidgin team
[16:54:29] <johnny> !spectrum
[16:54:39] <johnny> so.. mattj leaves and hal dies :(
[16:54:47] <maalox> Yes it worked when I registered using another Yahoo ID. I was able to chat with a yahoo user who was using the yahoo client, myself actually
[16:54:52] <johnny> ah ok
[16:55:03] <johnny> well the code is unmaintained, so you will not get real support using it
[16:55:21] <johnny> especially not from us, because most of us (or none) use it either
[16:55:26] * Florob joined the chat.
[16:55:31] <johnny> err :(
[16:55:36] <johnny> s/most/few/
[16:55:41] <maalox> Johnney, what set of transports would you recommend?
[16:55:51] <johnny> spectrum probably, it supports everything that pidgin program does
[16:55:59] <johnny> http://spectrum.im
[16:56:09] <johnny> so that means msn, irc, aim, yahoo, msn
[16:56:13] <johnny> etc..
[16:56:55] <johnny> look at pidgin.im for a full list of supported protocols
[16:57:14] <maalox> OK thanks. Well I can try the Py-transport list for now.
[16:57:19] <johnny> spectrum supports most of them now, and the rest are definitely possible to support, they just haven't been requested
[16:57:43] <maalox> I did look at spectrum when I was setting up a test ejabberd box.
[16:58:43] <maalox> Have any of you tried the Kraken plugin in Openfire?
[16:59:41] <johnny> no, because openfire seems barely maintained last i checked (altho it is better than it used to be)
[17:00:23] <johnny> spectrum is really the best choice, because the protocol maintence doesn't rely on the spectrum team in most cases
[17:00:50] <johnny> the pidgin folks take care of that in their normal course of operations because of their desktop client
[17:00:50] <maalox> Yeah I an trying to bring up an Openfire server but the support forum is not too resposive. Disappointing really.
[17:01:03] <johnny> i just use prosody
[17:01:15] <johnny> prosody + spectrum
[17:01:59] <maalox> I'll look into prosody but at this point I an probably committed to Openfire.
[17:02:50] <johnny> that's probably a bad idea to commit yourself to a barely maintained server
[17:03:02] <maalox> Thanks for the suggestions. This is more help than I have gotten in the Openfire forums in weeks.
[17:03:16] <Kev> The XMPP community at large is pretty helpful.
[17:03:27] <Kev> The two projects named above are both very active and helpful, too.
[17:04:22] <johnny> yes, that's why i switched to prosody from ejabberd... nicer community
[17:04:33] <johnny> bigger community in the chats anyways :)
[17:04:37] <maalox> True Johnny, but I have committed to a time line and I may be stuck for now. I have been using jabberd2. Is is still active?

[17:55:20] <stpeter> /me just had an interesting chat with yagiza about XEP-0184 :)
[17:56:48] <johnny> maalox, not really
[17:56:54] <johnny> jabberd2 that is
[17:58:02] <yagiza> stpeter, if i'll paste the log here as one message, won't i'll be kicked as flooder? (^_^)
[17:58:30] <stpeter> yagiza: I think we should paste the log to the mailing list
[17:58:37] <stpeter> yagiza: do I have your permission to do so?
[17:58:55] <yagiza> Yes, of course!
[17:59:06] <stpeter> ok
[18:02:25] * Zash left the chat.
[18:03:43] <yagiza> stpeter, and one more thing about XEP-0080
[18:04:51] <yagiza> It says: "Although the XMPP publish-subscribe extension is the preferred means for transporting location information about human users, applications that do not involve human users (e.g., device tracking) MAY use other transport methods;"
[18:05:02] <stpeter> http://mail.jabber.org/pipermail/standards/2010-June/023545.html
[18:07:49] <yagiza> I'd suggest to add a paragraph about adding <geoloc /> element to a message to specify a place to which this message corresponds.
[18:08:42] <yagiza> At least, the client I'm developing does so, and other users told that it's really convenient way.
[18:09:59] <yagiza> Usually, how much time it takes to activate the subscription to jdev mailing list?
[18:10:22] <stpeter> yagiza: I posted that message to the standards@xmpp.org list, not the jdev@jabber.org list
[18:10:39] <yagiza> Yeah
[18:11:03] <yagiza> I've subscribed to standards@ mailing list
[18:11:47] <yagiza> But still no messages received
[18:12:05] <stpeter> greylisting?
[18:12:35] <yagiza> So, I wonder if I have to wait a little more, or my mailbox is banned somehow...
[18:14:52] <stpeter> yagiza: I just subscribed you manually
[18:14:56] <stpeter> because I'm such a nice guy :P
[18:15:38] <Florob> stpeter, If I still have rfc3920bis issues from the editorial section that I think are unresolved in the -09 draft would you want those on the ML, or do you just need more time for now?
[18:16:01] <yagiza> stpeter, thank you!
[18:16:30] <yagiza> Let's wait a little bit more to see, if it worked!
[18:16:43] <stpeter> Florob: feel free to remind me of those if you have already posted to the list and they are mentioned at http://matthewwild.co.uk/uploads/3920bis_wglc_feedback.html
[18:19:15] <Florob> stpeter, "remind" as in?
[18:21:57] <yagiza> stpeter, and what do you think about adding a paragraph mentioned above to XEP-0080?
[18:23:18] <stpeter> Florob: poke :)
[18:24:10] <stpeter> hmm, we have a patch incoming about XEP-0080, so we could add a paragraph about message transport when that is published -- but IIRC we had text about this in the older version and pulled it out :)
[18:24:24] <stpeter> see http://xmpp.org/extensions/attic/ for older versions
[18:28:04] <stpeter> Florob: so feel free to poke me via IM or email
[18:28:17] * tkoski joined the chat.
[18:28:22] <stpeter> Florob: but I will double-check all changes against http://matthewwild.co.uk/uploads/3920bis_wglc_feedback.html

[20:08:24] <waqas> /me wonders why his email to standards@ is under the XEP-0184 thread: http://mail.jabber.org/pipermail/standards/2010-June/thread.html#23545
[20:09:16] <waqas> As that was a new message, not a reply to the thread, with a completely different subject.
[20:10:58] <deryni> pipermail is weird?
[20:11:27] <waqas> True
[20:13:55] <deryni> I wonder if that's an html generation failure.

[20:50:48] <Link Mauve> I think it should be a copy of the 8.2.3.3 section.
